Bulldog Men's Basketball Strings Together Six Straight with 92-75 Win over Caltech

Junior forward Parker Landolf (Alamo, CA) poured in 18 points off the bench to help the University of Redlands men's basketball team take down Caltech, 92-75, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road contest on Saturday. This marks their sixth consecutive win over the last three weeks.

The first half that was tightly contested endured 11 lead changes, and five ties. Finally at the 4:16-mark, junior guard Vincenzo Ferrari (Burlingame, CA) stole the ball and took it coast-to-coast to take the lead at 32-31. The layup sparked the largest run of the half with a 6-0 spurt to end the first half with a 37-31 lead.

Senior guard Hass Berry (Riverside, CA) and first-year forward Griffin Barker (Kirkland, WA) led the half in scoring with seven points each, while junior guard Jack Roggin (Toluca Lake, CA) tallied four points, five rebounds, and two assists.

In the second half, the Beavers worked their way back to pull ahead, 44-40, three and a half minutes into the action. However, Landolf stole the ball and pushed it forward to Berry for the transition three-pointer to take control of a 45-44 advantage with nearly five minutes off the clock in the second half. A couple of minutes later, Hass stole the ball himself and fed Barker for a fast-break layup to culminate a 9-0 run to make it 51-44.

Once again, Caltech gained momentum over the next few minutes to take back a lead as big as three points. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs overtook the Beavers for the last time on a jumper by senior forward David Menary (Grass Valley, CA), making it 57-56 with just under 10 minutes to go.

It was all Bulldogs from there, as four out of their next five baskets came from long distance with triples from Landolf, Berry, Barker, and Roggin to build a 73-60 lead with six minutes to go. The Maroon and Gray locked down on defense and didn't allow a field goal from the Beavers for three straight minutes.

Menary kept the momentum going for the Bulldogs on offense with a 5-0 run by himself to take the largest lead of the game at 86-69 with 2:31 remaining. Menary went on to score on a tip-in with 27 seconds left to put the cap on a 92-75 victory for Redlands.

Overall, Landolf led the team with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 28 minutes off the bench. He went 8-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Menary led the starting unit with a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, while Barker and Berry each tallied 15 points.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 53.8% from the field on 35-65 shooting. They also out-rebounded the Beavers 43-38 and dished out five more assists with a 19-14 edge.

Redlands (16-6, 9-4 SCIAC) takes its six-game win streak to Claremont-Mudd-Scipps Colleges for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, February 19.
