Junior Guard Joey Sponheim Tabbed SCIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

Joey Sponheim was named the SCIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week on Dec. 4.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced earlier today that junior guard Joey Sponheim (Redlands, CA) of the University of Redlands was selected as this week's Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Sponheim is Redlands' first SCIAC Athlete of the Week this winter season.

Sponheim helped the Bulldogs split results in a competitive weekend at the 2017 Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic in Currier Gym.   First, he supplied 18 points and six assists in Redlands' 80-74 victory over UC Santa Cruz. He was excellent at the charity stripe by going 5-for-6. He also had an incredible 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and hauled in three rebounds in an outstanding performance.

In Saturday's game against No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Sponheim co-led the team with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and shot 46.2% from the field.

As a result of his solid weekend, Sponheim was named to the six-person All-Tournament Team.
