The University of Redlands men's basketball team hosted 16th-ranked Calvin College (MI) on Saturday evening, and despite nailing a season-high 16 three-pointers, the Bulldogs fell to the Knights, 82-88.  The loss snapped Redlands' three-game winning streak.

Bulldog freshman guard Sean Milligan (Portland, OR) got things rolling for Redlands when he converted an and-one opportunity on a reverse layup just over a minute into the contest.  A couple of possessions later, sophomore forward Aljosa Bjekovic (Maribor, Slovenia) hit a jumper and then nailed a long-range effort to put the Bulldogs up by four.

After Calvin responded with a three-pointer of its own, Maroon and Gray senior forward Eric Radford (Federal Way, WA) and senior forward Alex Rudd (St. Louis, MO) both came off the bench and combined for 11 points in a two-minute span, extending the advantage to 10 points.

Radford stayed hot and hit another shot from deep not long after, helping Redlands maintain its lead.  Senior guard Ricky Peetz (Redlands, CA) and Bjekovic then drained back-to-back long-range efforts to continue the offensive momentum for the U of R.

While Calvin pounded the ball inside, the Bulldogs stayed hot from beyond the arc and hit a trio of three pointers to close the first half with a 45-44 lead.

Watch one of Peetz's three-pointers from late in the first half.

As a team, the Bulldogs went 10-for-18 from downtown during the first 20 minutes, while the Knights hit eight of their own from deep.

To begin the second half, Calvin used a 16-5 run to nab a 10-point advantage with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Knights remained hot and extended the lead to 15 points with just eight minutes left on the clock, but a long-range shot from Peetz, a jumper from Radford, and a three-pointer from Rudd cut the deficit to just nine points with six minutes remaining for the Maroon and Gray.

Redlands pulled to within five points after Rudd nailed another shot from downtown with 45 seconds left, but the Knights (8-2) then converted the necessary free-throw opportunities en route to the six-point triumph.

Leading the way for the U of R was Rudd with a game-high 25 points, while Peetz chipped in with 20 points of his own.  Radford provided a solid performance as he went 5-of-8 from the field for 13 points to go along with four boards, four assists, two steals, and one block.

As a team, Redlands shot 41.2% from the field, while the Knights hit 47.8% of their shots.  Calvin also out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 46-39, garnering 18 second-chance points.

The U of R (4-6) returns to action on Monday when it hosts Beloit College (WI).  Tipoff in Currier Gym is scheduled for 2 p.m.
