Redlands Men’s Basketball’s Historical Run Ends at Chapman

The University of Redlands men's basketball team faltered in its first NCAA playoff game since 1985, stumbling to No. 12 Chapman University on Thursday night at the Hutton Sports Arena in Orange. While struggling to find any offensive rhythm, the Bulldogs came up short against the favored home team in a 38-62 decision.

The bright spot for Redlands came in the first five minutes of the second stanza when the Bulldogs rallied from 10 points down to close within one. During this span, senior center Jordan Sanvictores (Redwood City, CA) stepped up with five straight points while sophomore guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) added a three-point play. Senior forward Stephen Call (Portola Valley, CA) brought the Bulldog fans to their feet when he drained a shot from long range to make it 27-28.

However, Chapman quickly responded with a 10-0 run to push its lead to 11.

Shooting 73.3% in the second half, the Panthers stretched their advantage to as many as 26 points.

Senior forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) walked off the court for the last time, scoring a team-high 10 points in his final game with the Bulldogs.

Chapman controlled the boards with a 42-17 advantage and shot an impressive 59% for the game.

Redlands (16-12) finishes out a historical season as the first Bulldog men's basketball team to compete in the NCAA tournament since 1985. The Bulldogs captured the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament title in their first appearance after winning a share of the conference title with an 11-3 record.
