Bulldog Men's Basketball Falls to Carthage in Home Opener

The University of Redlands men's basketball team competed at home for the first time this season as the Bulldogs took on Carthage College (WI) in a non-conference game. Despite a tight first half, Redlands fell to the Red Men, 72-60.

The first half included a back-and-forth battle which ended in favor of the Red Men by a 31-30 advantage.  Carthage simply pulled away in the second half, gaining a lead as big as 16 points with 1:18 to go in the game. 

After shooting 100% from the line in the opening period, the Bulldogs converted only four free throws out of 13 opportunities during the second half, while Carthage converted 22 of 26 opportunities. In addition, the Red Men shot 44.0% from the floor, compared to the Bulldogs' 41.4% mark.

For Redlands, the team looked to sophomore Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) to provide the only double-digit scoring with 18 points. Carthage gained 27 points from Steve Djurickovic, along with 24 points from Sean Fendley, who connected on four three-pointers early in the game. Adam Stuart also chipped in 12 points fir tge Red Men.

The Bulldogs (0-3) look forward to hosting La Sierra University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
