REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team (3-5, 3-1) is coming off a 21-point comeback win at home against previously undefeated Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) last Saturday at Ted Runner Stadium. This week they head to the only remaining undefeated team inside the Southern California Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) who is 6-1, 4-0 SCIAC. Kickoff for Week 10 is Saturday, November 5 at 1:05 p.m. in Claremont, CA.
The Bulldogs and Stags played a non-conference game at Ted Runner Stadium in week four where the Stags made a fourth-quarter comeback to win 25-21. CMS scored the final 13 points as the nine-point Bulldog lead evaporated over the course of the final 8:31.

The Bulldogs trailed 21-0 at halftime and did not find the endzone until the 9:37 mark of the third quarter when Tyler Tremain (Folsom, CA) found Seth Weller (Olympia, WA) for a three-yard touchdown.
The game looked wrapped up for the Sagehens in the fourth quarter when they recovered a Tremain fumble at their own 13-yard line with 8:24 remaining in the game. But the Redlands defense was able to get a quick three-and-out with only 1:04 coming off the clock.
Redlands did not waste any time, scoring on three plays that went for 44 yards in only :43 seconds as the score moved to 21-14 Sagehens.
On the ninth play of their next offensive drive following a P-P punt, Tremain ran for a 14-yard touchdown, Vicente Garcia (Fontana, CA) converted the extra point and UR headed to overtime tied at 21.
Pomona-Pitzer settled for a 22-yard field goal in the first possession of extra-time giving them an early lead. The Bulldogs then took over and on their first play had a two-yard loss on a completed pass. The very play Tremain took over winning the game with a 27-yard rushing touchdown.
The Bulldogs' comeback was quite miraculous when you consider how little time was remaining (7:10 when the first fourth quarter scoring drive started) and that they were outgained 369-270 in total yardage, averaged 2.8 fewer yards per pass, were sacked four times, and lost the time of possession by 13:20. They did play a cleaner game with no penalties versus the 10 for 87 yards for the Sagehens.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
It was a comprehensive win for the Stags against Whittier on the road, 43-0. They led 27-0 at half and 37-0 in the third quarter. They held the Poets to eight first downs, 1-for-12 on third downs, 166 offensive yards, while gaining 415 yards on offense, forcing three turnovers, and winning the time of possession by 10:04.
Four different quarterbacks played for the Stags, but they only threw the ball 23 times and ran it 48 times. Running back Justin Edwards ran for 122 yards on only 16 carries for a 7.6 yards per carry average, he also added two touchdowns.
Notably in special teams Alessandro Maiuolo went 3-for-3 on field goals with a long of 50 yards and made all three of his extra points. He also had two touchbacks on six kickoffs. Punt returner Mason Cotton returned two punts for 30 yards and Anderson Cynkar returned one kickoff for 24 yards.
Previous Meetings
As mentioned earlier, the Bulldogs and Stags played a non-conference game at Ted Runner Stadium that CMS won 25-21. In 2021 the Bulldogs won at Claremont 22-19 on a game-winning touchdown with :20 seconds remaining. Prior to the loss earlier this year, the Bulldogs have won the previous two with their last loss coming in 2018.
