Redlands
The Bulldogs are coming off their second loss in as many games following a 21-20 non-conference road loss at Pomona-Pitzer last weekend. The last time the Bulldogs fell to the Sagehens was back in 2004 (28-25).
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs put up good overall numbers offensively, especially through the air where Myles Herrera (Yucaipa, Calif.) threw for a career-high 297 yards on 34 attempts and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Bulldogs' problem came on the ground where they had 29 attempts for seven net yards rushing, a 0.2 yard per attempt average.
Leading the way on the outside was Evan Aguon (San Diego, Calif.) who set career-highs with 11 catches, 136 yards, and three touchdowns. He was named the SCIAC Specialist of the Week after amassing 216 all-purpose yards as a wide receiver and returner taking back both kick returns and punts against Pomona-Pitzer. He averaged 12.7 yards per punt return, and cleared 42 yards on kickoffs.
The Maroon and Grey only allowed 21 points with 14 of them coming in the final 9:39. The Sagehens only averaged 4.1 yards per play, but were able to sustain drives thanks to a 10-for-19 conversion mark on third downs. As a result, the Bulldogs defense was on the field for 84 plays, 21 more than the Sagehens' defense.
Statistically the Bulldogs received career performances from Scott Tinsley (Capitola, Calif.) who had a career-high 14 total tackles, Craig Hunter (Murrieta, Calif.) set career-highs with 12 total tackles and four tackles for loss (TFL), Jacob Sega (Oceanside, Calif.) had his first career sack and a career-high 11 total tackles, and Jadin Michaels (Palm Springs, Calif.) posted a career-high eight total tackles and had a pass breakup.
Linfield
The Wildcats have only played once this season and it was week one at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala. Linfield won 41-34 thanks to a 34-point first-half performance, while allowing only seven second half points.
Running back Bishop Mitchell had 47 yards on five carries and Connor Morton had a team-high 55 yards on 15 carries.
New quarterback Blake Eaton went 24-for-42 with 340 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The Wildcats had two players with 100-yard receiving days: Devon Murray (7 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown) and Joel Valadez (7 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown).
Series History
The Bulldogs and Wildcats played twice in 2021, with UR dropping both contests, 51-10 at home in September and then 44-10 on the road in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Championships. These two teams have met every season since 2018 with the last win for the U of R coming in 2019 when they picked up a 27-19 home win.
