Redlands Football Wins Pair of SCIAC Athletes of the Week

The University of Redlands gained two more Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletes of the Week, with this week's football awards going to junior defensive lineman Elias Hackney (Santa Monica, CA) and sophomore defensive back Marvin Perkins Jr. (Las Vegas, NV).

Hackney was named the Specialist of the Week for blocking two field goals in the Bulldogs' 15-13 win over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  In such a close win, his prowess on Special Teams provided a huge difference for the visitors.  He also contributed three tackles to the winning effort.

Perkins becomes the third Bulldog to earn the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week this season. He led all players with 10 tackles during Redlands' SCIAC-opening win against the Sagehens.  Six of his stops were solo tackles and one registered for a loss of 23 yards.  He also played a huge role by recording three pass break-ups and two interceptions for 14 yards.  His first snag was nearly a pick-six and gave Redlands a short field at the Pomona-Pitzer one-yard line that ultimately resulted in a touchdown.  His second interception set up the Bulldogs' ensuing field goal, which proved to be critical in the close win.
