Junior Kicker Nathan Hierlihy Elected to Associated Press Division III All-America Football Team

The University of Redlands Athletic Department continues to haul in the postseason awards for fall sports, as junior kicker Nathan Hierlihy (Redondo Beach, CA) was named to the 2017 Associated Press Division III Football All-America Second Team, according to a national announcement made on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier this year, Hierlihy received three All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) nods, including a First-Team award as a kicker, to go along with a spot on the D3football.com All-West Region Second Team.  Finally, Hierlihy remains in the running for the prestigious 2017 Fred Mitchell Award as one of 13 finalists.

During the Bulldogs' 7-2 campaign, Hierlihy led the team in scoring with 78 points, which came off 15 field goals and 33 PATs.  He reset the school record with a 55-yard boot that split the uprights in Redlands' opening win over Trinity University (TX).  He finished the season with three 50-plus-yard field goals.  Hierlihy currently ranks first in NCAA Division III for field goals made on the season with 1.67 per game.

This Redondo Union High School graduate also averaged 43.4 yards per punt with a long of 70 and landed 10 of them inside the 20-yard line.  He blasted 71 kickoffs for 4,361 yards and an average of 61.4 per boot.

After a long hiatus, the AP All-America Team was brought back to recognize NCAA Division III football standouts in a partnership between the Associated Press and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
