2023 Baseball All-SCIAC Teams

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the 2023 Baseball All-SCIAC teams Thursday and making the 1st Team for the first time in their careers are third baseman Max Clark (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and starting pitcher Tyler Reiter (San Diego, CA).

Clark had a fantastic conference season. He had a slash line of .313/.423/.662 (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage). His .662 slugging percentage is fifth best in SCIAC play. His plate discipline was also improved from a year ago as he drew 15 walks (7th) and only struck out 20 times (11th). He had six doubles (17th), two triples (2nd) and six home runs (3rd) for a total of 14 extra base hits (3rd)

In comparison to last season his slash line is better across the board after he put up numbers of .220/.347/.476. His plate discipline has also improved after he struck out 31 times in 2022.

On the base paths and defensively he also excelled; he stole five bases (8th), was only caught stealing once (17th), and scored 25 runs (3rd). With the glove he had 22 assists (27th), committed only three errors, and had a .925 fielding percentage.  In 2022 he stole three bases, scored 12 runs, committed seven errors for an .887 fielding percentage.

Of note for the 2023 season overall, Clark hit nine home runs, the sixth most in single-season program history as he becomes only the second player to have two nine plus home run seasons.

On the mound Reiter had a historic season as he finished SCIAC play with a 1.86 (1st) earned run average (ERA) across 53.1 innings (2nd), winning five games (1st), made his eight scheduled starts (1st), threw three complete games (1st), struck out 42 batters (5th), walked only 10, and had only one wild pitch (1st).

During the 2022 SCIAC season, his numbers in the above categories were a 4.97 ERA (241st), 29 innings thrown (18th), two wins (15th), four losses (6th most), no complete games, 22 strikeouts (22nd), 21 walks (2nd most), and had three wild pitches (52nd).

From an overall season perspective, Reiter won seven games with a 1.46 ERA, 74 innings pitched, 69 strikeouts, four complete games, and two wild pitches. His ERA is the fifth lowest in single-season program history and his four complete games are tied for the ninth most. Reiter is expected back in 2024.

The Bulldogs finished 2023 with an 18-20, 10-14 SCIAC record as they came in sixth within the conference standings.
