Redlands Baseball eases past Whitworth thanks to McClelland's three-RBI day

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team picked up their fourth win on the season Friday afternoon rolling 11-4 over Whitworth University thanks to 5.1 scoreless innings from Tyler Reiter (San Diego, CA) and three RBI's each from Cade McClelland (Mission Viejo, CA) and Jared Anderson (Gilbert, AZ).

Redlands has now won three in a row, improving to 4-2, while going 3-2 against the Northwest Conference.     

The Bulldogs offense started hot totaling 10 runs across the first five innings.  Jake Burgess (Riverside, CA) got the scoring started in U of R's opening at-bats with an RBI groundout. Then in the second the Bulldogs rallied for three runs on two hits all coming with two outs.  Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA) was hit by a pitch to start the rally, Luke De Vries (Irvine, CA) singled to left, Esteban Nakashima (Riverside, CA) reached on an error by the second baseman and Anderson would drive in two with a base hit up the middle.  

McClelland made it 6-0 with a two-run shot to right field for his first collegiate home run.

The other five runs came courtesy of a Max Clark (Fontana, CA) sacrifice fly, McClelland's RBI-double, Ceja's RBI-single, Anderson's sacrifice fly, and finally Ian Umscheid's (Beaumont, CA) RBI-single to left center, which was hit first collegiate hit and RBI.

On the mound Reiter got the win after only allowing one hit with eight strikeouts. Kyler Bacosa (San Jose, CA) made his collegiate debut with 1.2 innings and two strikeouts.

McClelland finished the game going 2-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored, De Vries was 2-for-4 scoring once, Anderson was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and Ceja was 1-for-3 scoring twice and driving in another. 

Redlands will start Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play at Pomona-Pitzer next Friday, February 24 with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
