It was announced earlier today by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) that junior third baseman Anthony Acosta (Simi Valley, CA) has been named to the All-Conference First Team in his inaugural season with the Bulldogs.
While competing in 22 conference contests, Acosta proved to be one of the top hitters in the SCIAC with top-five numbers in several different categories. He finished the season atop the conference charts with 38 hits and a batting average of .413, and among a four-way tie for first place with 23 RBI. In addition, he ranks second with 10 doubles, tied-for-second with three triples, and third with a slugging percentage of .587 against SCIAC opponents.
During one of his strongest weekends of the season, Acosta came up clutch with a huge triple to set up his game-winning run that secured the series sweep over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. He served as a consistent contributor throughout all three games against the Sagehens by registering two hits and two runs in game one, a 3-for-5 outing with an RBI in game two, and an impressive 3-for-4 showing, including a double and a triple, in game three.
In the ensuing week against Caltech, Acosta led the team to a 14-2 win on a dominant 4-for-5 effort at the plate with a season-high six RBI.
In conference games, he registered 20 putouts and 39 assists while playing the hot corner. He also added two double-plays against SCIAC foes.
