It was announced earlier today by D3baseball.com that two University of Redlands baseball standouts landed on the All-America Teams for their stellar contributions throughout the 2017 campaign. Junior ace Felix Minjarez (Riverside, CA) was named to the All-America Second Team, while junior catcher Rainier Aguilar (San Bernardino, CA) received an All-America Honorable Mention.
Sixty-three student-athletes were selected out of more than 800 nominations for the 11th-annual D3baseball.com All-America team. Redlands is the only school in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to gain more than one All-American with D3baseball.com. Minjarez and Aguilar are joined by Pomona-Pitzer College's Tanner Nishioka and Chapman University's Tyler Cook.
While earning his inaugural All-America nod, Minjarez becomes the first Bulldog to receive this honor from D3basebll.com since Derek Johnson in 2011.
This outstanding achievement follows Minjarez's D3baseball.com, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, and SCIAC Pitcher of the Year awards. He provided a dominant presence on the mound while leading the team to the championship game of its third-consecutive SCIAC Postseason Tournament appearance. Minjarez currently co-leads all of NCAA Division III baseball with 12 wins on the season and ranks sixth with 105 strikeouts on the season. He owns a lowly ERA of 2.30 while recording 94 innings pitched.
Aguilar received an Honorable Mention after hauling in his inaugural All-West Region award earlier this season. He ranks 32nd in all of Division III baseball with a .424 batting average and sits 44th with a .500 on-base percentage. Defensively, Aguilar holds a 1.000 fielding percentage as the primary starting catcher for the Bulldogs.
