Junior Catcher Rainier Aguilar Represents Bulldog Baseball as SCIAC Athlete of the Week

In an impressive week for the Bulldogs, junior catcher Rainier Aguilar (San Bernardino, CA) collected the University of Redlands' third Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week honor for the week of March 6.  The Bulldog baseball standout joins sophomore Chase Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) of the Redlands men's tennis and freshman Sadie Pickering (Tacoma, WA) of the women's lacrosse team as fellow recipients of this award.

Aguilar provided a strong bat in the Bulldogs' series win over Cal Lutheran University by registering a slugging percentage of .833 and batting average of .500 in 12 at-bats.  In the first game against the Kingsmen, he launched a long single to put Redlands on the board with two runs in the top of the first inning en route to the team's 7-2 win.

Despite the loss in game two, Aguilar did all he could from the dish, beginning with a two-run dinger in the bottom of the first to cut the Bulldogs' early deficit to 3-5.  He went on to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI-single.

During the rubber match, he cranked out an RBI-single for the Maroon and Gray's first run of the game that ended in an 8-6 Bulldog victory.

Overall, he was flawless on defense as the team's starting catcher.

Redlands baseball (10-9) takes on Ithaca College (NY) on Friday, March 17, in a 3 p.m. showdown at the Yard.
