The University of Redlands baseball team traveled to Orange to take on the Panthers of Chapman University in a non-conference match-up under the lights. Despite a late push by the home team, the Bulldogs' three-run fifth inning was enough to hold off the Panthers in a 4-2 victory.

Junior pitcher Noah Jones (San Bernardino, CA) was handed the pearl for the night contest. He cruised through the first four innings by dispersing three hits, fanning six, and allowing no runs.

The fifth inning proved to be a big inning for the Bulldogs, as they scored all three runs in an impressive two-out rally. Senior center-fielder Christian Conci (San Mateo, CA) roped a double to left field to lead off the inning. Two outs followed, with senior left-fielder Mitch Samson (Orangevale, CA) stepping up to knock an RBI-single to left for Redlands' first run of the game. Junior right-fielder Kyle Kabeary (Indio, CA) followed suit by sending a single through the left side, before Redlands' subsequent batter was walked to load the bases. Junior catcher Rainier Aguilar (San Bernardino, CA) slapped a base hit for two RBI and the 3-0 Bulldog advantage.

Junior Felix Minjarez (Riverside, CA) took over pitching duties in the bottom of the fifth and put trust in his defense to secure all three outs quickly. Senior hurler Michael Collins (Upland, CA) was called on to pitch in the bottom of the sixth and, in deja vu fashion, sat all three batters in order.

After both teams added a run in the seventh for a 4-1 score, junior Adam Stead (Rialto, CA) took to the mound in the bottom of the eighth. Although he gave up a solo shot, he secured the first two outs, before senior John White (Burbank, CA) defended Redlands' lead by fanning the last batter for the third out. White finished out the game strong with two more strikeouts and a fly-out to preserve the Maroon and Gray's 4-2 win.

Redlands (7-7, 3-3 SCIAC) looks forward to taking on non-conference opponent Kean University (NJ) on Friday, March 3, at The Yard. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
