Cross Country prepared for deep run at SCIAC Championships

 

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Cross Country teams are prepared to compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, tomorrow, Saturday, October 30 at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  The two races will begin at 8:30 a.m. (Men – 8,000m) and 9:15 a.m. (Women – 6,000m).  The last time the Bulldogs competed In the SCIAC Championships was back in 2019, where the men placed third and the women's fifth.

Men's Preview

On the season the Bulldogs have competed in four races: Redlands Invitational, UC Riverside Invitational, Live in Lou Cross Country Classic (Louisville, Ky,), and the UCR Highlander Invitational. In those four races the Bulldogs have finished 2nd, 10th, 22nd, and 21st.

Coming into the championships, the Bulldogs top runners are graduate Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO), junior Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA), first-year Nolan Brown (La Canada, CA), and graduate Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO).

Cargile won the Bulldogs opening race at home at the Redlands Invitational with a 19:03 time and an average mile time of 5:07 in the 6K race. He finished 67th at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic 8K, with a time of 25:53.3 with an average mile time of 5:12.

Salcido finished 7th at the Redlands Invitational with a time of 19:58 and an average mile time of 5:22. At the Live in Lou Classic he finished 137th with a time of 26:57.7 and average mile time of 5:24. At the Highlander Invitational 8K, he finished 125th with much improved 8K time of 25:58.0.

Brown was the 18th place finisher at the Redlands Invitational with a time of 20:38 and an average mile time of 5:33. At the Live in Lou Classic he finished 150th with a time of 27:10.9 and an improved average mile time of 5:27. Then at the Highlander Invitational Brown built on his Louisville race and finished 141st with at time of 26:13.2.

Olive-Larson was the 14th place finisher at the Redlands Invitational with a time of 20:22 and an average mile time of 5:28. He then finished 127th at the Live in Lou Classic with a time of 26:54.3 and lowered his average mile time to 5:24. At the Highlander Invitational Olive-Larson made a big leap when he finished 145th with a much-improved time of 26:15.1.

 

Women's Preview

Heading into the SCIAC championships, the Bulldog women have competed in the same four races as the men and have finishes of: 1st, 5th, 12th, and 16th. The top four runners for the Bulldogs are senior Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA), first-year Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR), senior Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA), and junior Sheriane Greene (Grass Valley, CA).

Glenn was the Redlands Invitational 4500M winner with a time of 17:31 and an average mile of 6:16. At the UCR Invitational 5K, she finished in 5th with a time of 17:59.7. She finished in 24th at the Live in Lou Classic 6K with a time of 22:55.0 which gave her an improved average mile of 6:08.  Then most recently at the Highlander Invitational 6K, she finished 32nd and lowered her time down to 21:40.8.

Bullock was the third-place finisher at the Redlands Invitational with a time of 17:43 and an average mile time of 6:20. In Riverside she finished 9th with a time of 18:28.1. Then in Louisville she finished 37th with a time of 23:21.7 which resulted in an improved average mile time of 6:15. To finish the regular season races, she finished 64th in her second race at UC Riverside, lowering her 6K time to 22:19.3.

Wallace was the middle finisher for the Bulldogs at the Redlands Invite, finishing 2nd with a time of 17:41 and an average mile time of 6:20. At the UCR Invitational she finished 20th with a time of 18:45. Then in Louisville she finished 62nd with a time of 23:50.7 and an average mile of 6:23. And in her regular season finale, she finished 80th with an improved time of 22:39.7. It was a 1:11 improvement in two weeks.

Greene finished 7th at the Redlands Invitational with a time of 18:45 and an average mile time of 6:43. In Riverside she finished 62nd with a time of 19:35.8. Then at the Live in Lou Classic she finished 121st with a time of 24:55.2 and a lower average mile time of 6:41. Then in her final race prior to these championships, Greene finished 157th with an even lower 6K time of 23:54.8.

Redlands will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Division III West Regionals, which will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, November 13.
