2023 University of Redlands Women's Water Polo Schedule

REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands Head Women's Water Polo Coach Chris Gielen officially announced his 2023 Schedule Wednesday. 

The Bulldogs will play a total of 16 games (not including tournaments where their opponents are to be determined) with ten of them taking place inside the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) and another six on the road. The U of R will also compete in a trio of invites (CBU Invitational, Bulldog Invitational, Harvard Invitational). 

Redlands will open their 2023 season at the CBU Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 27-28. The Bulldogs will look to build off a 2022 season where they went 8-13, 5-9 SCIAC. 

The Maroon and Grey will open their home slate at the TAC when they host the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, February 18.  They open with Cal State Fullerton at 9:00am, a first year program and will then take on Concordia University Irvine at 3:00pm.  In the month of February UR will play at home four times, will take on two teams inside the TAC in March and then wrap up the home slate with another four teams in April. 

The Bulldogs' leading returning scorer is Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) who scored 30 goals last season. Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) was second in assists in 2022 and will be the leading returning assister in 2023. In goal Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) will return to the pool after finishing a successful soccer career this fall. Zielinski, who was an ACWPC Honorable Mention All-American a year ago was the Bulldogs' goalie, playing 600 minutes between the posts with a .483 save percentage and 161 saves.

  • vs. Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 18, New program): This will be the Titans first season as a program.
  • vs. Concordia University Irvine (Feb. 18, 9-14, NR): All-time the Bulldogs and Eagles have played eight times, with the Eagles holding the 6-2 advantage. The last matchup was in 2020 when CUI won 18-8 at the TAC. The last Bulldog win came in 2016 when they won a neutral site game 18-11.
  • vs. Cal State Northridge (Feb. 25, 12-14, 24th): The previous meeting was in 2020 when the Matadors won 17-3 at the Bulldog Invitational.
  • vs. Westcliff (Feb. 25, New program): This will be the first meeting between the Warriors and the Bulldogs.
  • California Lutheran University (at Mar. 8 vs. Apr. 12,  16-11, 4th): The Bulldogs went 0-2 against the Regals in 2022. The last Bulldog win was in 2016 when they went 1-1, which included a 9-7 home win.
  • Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (vs. Mar. 11 at Apr. 8, 16-9, 3rd): Went 0-2 last season. After starting the 2019 season with a pair of losses against the Athenas, the Bulldogs picked up a 9-2 road win late in the year.
  • University of La Verne (at Mar. 15 vs. Apr. 19, 16-12, 6th): Went 0-2 against the Leopards in 2022. The last win came in 2019 when UR went 1-1 and got a 10-8 home win.
  • Caltech (at Mar. 18, 1-19, NR): Went 2-0 with an 8-1 and a 10-2 win last season. The Bulldogs have never lost a game to the Beavers, going 19-0 dating back to 2007.
  • Pomona-Pitzer (vs. Mar. 25, 24-15, 1st): The Bulldogs lost both times in 2022 to the eventual national champions. Their last win was in 2013 when they edged PP 7-6 on the road.
  • Whittier College (at Mar. 29, 17-12, 2nd): Lost their lone meeting with the national runners-up in 2022, 9-8.
  • Occidental College (at Apr. 1 vs. Apr. 10, 8-19, 10th): Won both meetings 7-3 and 9-5 in 2022. The Bulldogs have won eleven straight games against the Tigers. Their last loss coming in overtime 12-11 in 2015.
  • Chapman University (vs. Apr. 5, 12-16, 7th): Won 7-6 on the road last season and went 2-1 during the COVID-19 shortened 2021 season.
