Volleyball Faces Tough Match-up with St. Katherine

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Volleyball team faced a tough matchup on the road with St. Katherine in their second match of the season falling in straights 25-5, 25-10, 25-21.  

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, failing to get any offense going in the opening set as they fell behind 16-1. They attempted to find something in the latter part of the frame but couldn't as they would fall in an early hole 25-5.  

Paige Davidson (Spanaway, WA) got things going in the second set with a kill as UR would keep it close early, but an ensuing 16-5 run by the Firebirds would put the Bulldogs in a tough spot as they would fall 25-10.  

The third set was the Bulldogs' best start of the night, taking a 6-4 lead thanks to kills from Saudya Reagor (Banning, CA) and Bella Thornbury (Grass Valley, CA).  They kept it close after that eventually grabbing a 17-15 lead capitalizing on a couple of Firebird attacking errors. But UR couldn't keep the momentum as the Firebirds would rattle off 10 of the final 14 points en route to the 25-21 closing set.  

Thornbury finished with a team-high five assists, added a kill and a pair of digs … Reagor had a team-high three kills, an assist and a dig.

UR showed improvement from set one to set three defensively, reducing the Firebirds hitting percentage from .667 to .240.

The Bulldogs have their home opener vs Marymount (Calif.) on Friday, September 10 at 6:00pm.
