The 13th-ranked University of Redlands women's tennis knocked off the No. 21 Eagles of the University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday in a 6-3 decision on Verdieck Courts.  While capitalizing on a 3-0 lead after the doubles, the Bulldogs looked to Nos. 4, 5, and 6 to step up in singles for the important win.

Sophomores Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) and Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) got things going in the right direction for the Maroon and Gray, as they registered an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.  Sophomore Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) and junior Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) followed suit with their 8-4 triumph at No. 2, before the top tandem of senior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) muscled out a 9-7 performance to secure the doubles sweep.

In singles, the Eagles showed their resiliency by tying it up with wins in the first three matches off the court, which included two three-setters.

However, the Maroon and Gray answered with Villanueva's 6-4, 6-2 performance at No. 5, before Vasquez topped her No. 6 opponent by scores of 6-1, 7-6(2) to earn the Bulldogs' deciding point.

In addition, senior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) also came out victorious with her 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 effort at No. 4.
