REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team is hosting a fundraiser Wednesday night, October 19 in support for Puerto Rico Disaster Relief.

Five years after the devastating passage of Hurricane Maria, Fiona arrived causing catastrophic damage, leaving Puerto Rico with a general blackout and over 850,000 people without drinking water.

First-year midfielder Fabiola Ayala-Rivera hails from Ponce, Puerto Rico and is spearheading this campaign looking to spread the information about the devastation that occurred and hopes to gather donations through PR Rises (Puerto Rico Rises), which will help with giving aid directly to those who need it the most.

"I am incredibly thankful to Coach Soboti for giving me this opportunity and for so much support to do this," Ayala-Rivera stated.  "This is particularly meaningful to me because I am Puerto Rican, and a lot of my family resides on the island. I hope to raise awareness and understanding for hurricane Fiona as well as all of the hardships Puerto Rico has faced in recent years. Puerto Rico also often unfortunately gets underrepresented in national media and conversation. This translates to the island repeatedly drawing the short end of the stick pertaining to aid, resources, and general attention, with the mainland given the precedence."

PR Rises (Puerto Rico Rises) is a 501c3 certified non-profit organization and is vetted by global giving.  They distribute food, water, and other essential items directly to different neighborhoods.

They also have information and pictures of the storm and what it has done to Puerto Rico on their website site.  Please scan the QR Code or click the link directly to make a donation or to learn more.  Any donation helps.
