REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team returned to Farquhar Field Saturday following a four game road trip and showed off their offense in a 5-0 thumping of Caltech.

The Maroon and Grey continue to stay in the hunt for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament berth as they improve to 5-6, 4-4 SCIAC.

The Bulldogs wasted little time in putting the Beavers on their heels, forcing a pair of saves by Caltech keeper Eve Fine in the first 2:34.  The second stop though rebounding back into the box and falling nicely to the feet of Peyton Fendrich (Clackamas, Ore.) who tapped it in for the go ahead goal and her fourth of the season.

After that the Bulldogs continued to provide the pressure taking another nine shots, two of which were on frame coming from first-year Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) and Fendrich.  Caltech though provided some of their own pushback in the opening 45:00 minutes with Jennifer Solgaard putting two shots on goal that required Courtney Stewart (San Jose, Calif.) to come up with a pair of stops.  The best look all game for the Beavers came in the 16th minute from Katherin Marquis who took a strike from outside the box, which resulted in the ball hitting the crossbar and bouncing out.  This kept the game 1-0 at the break.

It only took :47 seconds into the second half for UR to move the score to 2-0. Just like the first goal, Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, Calif.) took advantage of a great shot by Salinas that forced a Caltech save.  This provided Zielinski an open look and she took advantage with great positioning cleaning up the rebound.

After another Zielinski shot and a pair of U of R corners, the Bulldogs got their third goal in the 54th minute, when Kailey Hall (Tacoma, WA) slipped a through ball from the top of the penalty box to Fendrich, who finished for her second goal of the game.

Five minutes later in the 59th minute senior Eva Vlassopoulos (Portland, OR) found space from 25 yards out, turning, and finishing to the top right corner of the goal to move the score to 4-0.  But she wanted another, coming back :47 seconds later by matching her fourth goal of the season with an equally spectacular fifth, this time going over the keeper's head and just under the cross bar with what may be the two best goals of the SCIAC season thus far.

In the final 30 minutes of the game the Bulldogs' big lead allowed them to use all available players and managed to complete the shutout with a 5-0 win.

The Bulldogs finished with 23 shots, 13 of them on-goal, led by Fendrich and Vlassopoulos who each had braces. For Fendrich it is her first career multi-goal game and Vlassopoulos' third.  Stewart only faced two shots on-goal, saving both and picked up her fifth win of the season.

The Bulldogs remain at home this week on Tuesday, October 19, beginning at 7:00pm with a rematch against Chapman University who they fell to 3-0 on the road this past Wednesday.
