The University of Redlands women's soccer team took to Farquhar Field under humid conditions on Wednesday night against the University of La Verne Leopards. Following a scoreless 73 minutes of action, Redlands found the back of the net twice in a four-minute span to prevail over the Leopards by a final score of 2-1 in an intense Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match.

The Maroon and Gray came out of the gate firing, with three different Bulldogs getting a shot off in the first five minutes.

Although Redlands out-shot the Leopards by a 12-5 margin in the first frame, the home team continued to search for its break-through chance.  On the other end of the field, junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) made four huge saves to keep La Verne off the scoreboard.  She finished the night with six saves.

Following Head Coach Suzette Soboti's halftime speech, the Bulldogs entered the final 45 minutes with urgency.  Sophomore forward Hayley Romo (Port Orchard, WA) blasted off a shot only 35 seconds into the second period to set the tone early.

For the next 28 minutes, the Maroon and Gray fired off an impressive eight shots, before freshman forward Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA) got the ball in space and nailed one past the ULV keeper for the 1-0 lead.

But Loskutoff wasn't done yet.  Less than four minutes later, she gathered a beautifully placed corner kick off the foot of sophomore midfielder Lauren Bay (Oak Park, CA) and banged it home for Redlands' 2-0 advantage.

Although La Verne jumped on the scoreboard in the 85th minute, the Redlands backline of seniors Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Sammie Burghardt (Gig Harbor, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), and freshman Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) stepped up to prevent any chance of a Leopard comeback with stellar play.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-2 SCIAC) strive to carry this momentum into their next game, which is slated for Saturday, September 24, at 7 p.m. against the Whittier College Poets on Farquhar Field.
