UR Women's Soccer Puts on Scoring Spectacular to Kick off 2016 Season

In a total team effort, the Bulldog women's soccer team downed the Lawrence University Vikings by a score of 9-0 at Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks on Saturday afternoon.

The team fired off an incredible 43 shots altogether with 18 going on goal. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Bay (Oak Park, CA) recorded the Bulldogs' first score of the day when she found the back of the net just four minutes into the game. Freshman forward Bryn Anderson (Tahoe City, CA) highlighted the productivity of the nine rookies who entered the game by scoring two goals in the first half. Sophomore forward Hayley Romo (Port Orchard, WA) added one of her own for a total of four Bulldog goals in the first half.

Lawrence took only two shots during the opening stanza, with junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) making an impressive save to stop the only on-frame attempt by the Vikings.

Thanks to the excellent defensive efforts of seniors Sammie Burghardt (Gig Harbor, WA) and Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), sophomores Molly Boyle (Bend, OR) and Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR), and freshmen Gabriela Cavazos (Riverside, CA) and Sydney Baron (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), the ball rarely crossed midfield, which gave the Maroon and Gray's offense plenty of scoring opportunities.

In the second half, five more Bulldogs tacked on one goal apiece. Newcomer forward Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA) was the only player to put one through the posts while also dishing out an assist.

Freshman Brittany Dinkins (Renton, WA) saw her first collegiate minutes when she started the second half in goal. Due to the aggressive play of the entire Redlands team, the opponents managed only one shot in the second half but it went wide.

The Bulldogs (1-0) look forward to continuing their successes this Labor Day weekend when they take on Emory University (GA) on Monday, September 5, at 11 a.m. on Farquhar Field.
