Bulldog Women’s Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss to Athenas

The University of Redlands women's soccer team came up short in double overtime by a score of 0-1 to the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Wednesday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at Farquhar Field.

Both squads squared off in a defensive battle that needed more than105 minutes to decide the final outcome.

Athena sophomore defender Xana Bartlett (Shoreline, WA) struck a quick right-to-left pass to senior midfielder Kristen McAfee (Albuquerque, NM), who found the back of the net at the 105:03 mark for the lone goal of the match.

Throughout the game the Maroon and Gray had several scoring opportunities, including seven corner kicks and 13 shots.

Despite collecting eight saves in 62 minutes of play, Redlands sophomore goalkeeper Linzey Smith (Anaheim Hills, CA) suffered her first conference loss of the season.

The Bulldogs (7-7-0, 5-4-0 SCIAC) look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Thousand Oaks to take on Cal Lutheran University, which currently sits in a tie for first place in the SCIAC standings. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
