Jugar tied for the lead as No. 1 Redlands Women's Golf opens SCIAC Championships in third

VENTURA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team had a slow start to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships Sunday afternoon as they opened the three-day event in third place following a 299. They currently sit 13 strokes behind No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) who are the leaders after they shot a 286.

Ahead of UR in second is No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) who are seven strokes ahead of the Bulldogs. Then in fourth sits No. 24 California Lutheran University (CLU) with a 305.  

Despite the team struggles, the Maroon and Grey saw the No. 6 ranked player in the country (according to Golfstat), Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) sit in a tie for first after shooting a one under 71. She is in a tie with three other players as ten golfers are at or within two strokes of first place.

No. 50 Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) was the second of two Bulldogs inside the Top-10 as she tied for seventh with a 73. Fellow Bulldogs No. 12 Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) is in a tie for 15th with a 77, No. 17 Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) is tied for 18th with a 78, and lastly No. 73 Jizelle Robledo (La Habra, CA) is in a tie for 24th with an 80.

The Bulldogs will tee off Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Olivas Links Golf Club for Round 2 action as they look to make up ground for a push on the final day for the SCIAC Championship Title.
