Redlands Women's Golf wins SCIAC No. 2 behind record setting performances from Jugar and York

POMONA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team overcame a three-stroke deficit to Golfstat's No. 6 team in the country, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P), after round one to win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 2 by three strokes at Mountain Meadows Golf Club. With the win the Bulldogs have now secured both SCIAC Tournament titles and have won five tournaments on the season as they head into a break before the SCIAC Championships beginning at the end of the month.

In round one on Saturday, the Bulldogs shot a 291, three strokes behind Pomona-Pitzer but 13 strokes better than No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS). The Bulldogs were led by a pair of 70s from Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) and Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) as the pair were in a tie for second place, one stroke behind the leader from the Sagehens.

In the second round on Sunday the Bulldogs were one of only two teams, along with CMS, to shoot a sub-300 score as they shot a 296 in comparison to the 302 that PP shot allowing the Bulldogs to make the comeback.

Leading the Maroon and Grey was event winner Jugar, who shot a second round 67 and co-runner-up York who shot a 74. Jugar won the event by seven strokes with a two-round total of 137 (70-67), tying herself and teammate Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) for the second lowest two-round performance in program history, one stroke behind the 136 (64-72) Caroline Ordian shot in the fall 2015.

Jugar's first round score of 70 and the second round 67 is identical to her previous 137 scoreline at the California State Intercollegiate in September 2021. Nine of the 21 best two-round performances have now come from the All-American, the most of any athlete on the list. She also ties herself and Nicholson for the second best two-round performer.

The other top performer for the Bulldogs, York, also moves into the record books now sitting in a tie for the 13th lowest single round thanks to her first-round 70. That score ties her with current teammate Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA), and three others, for fourth on the Top-10 performers list. York's two-round 144 (70-74) also places her in eighth for the Top-10 performers.

Other Bulldogs finishers were Liu and Nicholson who tied for 13th with 153s.  Liu shot a 76-77 and Nicholson with a 75-78.  First-year Jizelle Robledo (La Habra, CA) was the last to score finishing in a tie for 20th shooting a 159 with a 76-83.

With the SCIAC Championships set to take place on April 23-25 at Olivas Links Golf Club in Ventura, CA, the Bulldogs will get a chance to fine tune things as they travel to the UC Santa Cruz Invitational in Pacific Grove, CA on Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9 taking place at Pacific Grove Golf Links.
