U of R Women’s Golf keeps moving up at the National Championships | Sit 2nd following a 293

HOUSTON, TX – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team continues to advance up the leaderboard at the NCAA Division III National Championships posting the third lowest round of the event today in Round 3 combining for a 293, which places them 2nd overall. 

The Bulldogs have gone from 7th to 4th and now to 2nd within the standings totaling a 903 (304-306-293) and now sit 24 shots off the leader (Emory – 879) as they head into the final day of competition.

Redlands advanced two spots from yesterday jumping No. 6 George Fox University (3rd – 906) and No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer (5th – 910), while pulling slightly ahead of No. 3 Williams College (4th - 908), No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (5th - 910), and No. 4 Methodist University (7th – 911).

On the day Redlands led the field in Par 3 Scoring (3.13 | +8), was No. 4 in Par 4 Scoring (4.32 | +48), but had their biggest improvement in Par 5 Scoring going from No. 10 to No. 5 (5.10 | +6).  They totaled 165 Pars and 31 Birdies.      

Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) continues to ascend the individual leaderboard jumping eight spots into a tie for second after she posted a one-under 71 today, which included five birdies, three of which came on the front nine.  She has now improved each round going from a 75-72-71 for a 218 (+2).  She was also perfect on Par 3's (3.00 | E) and ranked No. 4 in Par 4 Scoring (4.10 | +3).  

Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) also put up a one-under 71 today as well, but with four birdies, which moved her up eight spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12th.  She has gone 74-77-71 for a 222 (+6).  She finished her round posting a 3.08 Average on Par 3's (+1), a 4.20 Average on Par 4's (+6), and a 4.92 Average on Par 5's (-1).    

Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) remains consistent across her three rounds staying put in 28th after she dropped another two strokes with a 75.  Over the three rounds she has posted a 76-77-75 for a 228 (+12).  Her two big stats came in Par 3 Scoring (3.08 | +1) and Par 5 Scoring (4.92 | -1).    

The biggest jump on the day came from Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) who moved 15 spots into a tie for 53rd after dropping four strokes to a 76.  She started the Championships with a pair of 80's and is now with a 236 (+20). 

The last Bulldog to score was Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) who put up a 78 and was able to move up eight spots into a tie for 60th.  She started strong with a 79, but dropped two strokes to an 81 after Round 2, but has found some momentum heading into the final day. 

Redlands wraps up the Division III National Championships tomorrow, Friday, May 13 when they take on Bay Oaks Country Club one last time.
