No. 3 Women’s Golf Opens Bulldog Spring Classic in 3rd (303) | Andrea York Posts a 73 (+1)

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team who moved up in the Division III National Rankings according to golfstat and the WGCA to No. 3 opened up the Bulldog Spring Classic Saturday at Desert Island Country Club posting a 303 that puts them 3rd overall. 

They currently trail Williams College (1st – 293) and Claremont-M-S (2nd – 300), but do hold an advantage over Centre College (4th – 307), Chapman University (5th – 312), Cal Lutheran (6th – 322), and Claremont-M-S (B) (7th – 333). 

Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) leads the Maroon and Grey with an outstanding opening round 73 (+1) with four birdies that puts her two shots off the leaders as she sits in a tie for 3rdHannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) and Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) are both in a tie for 14th together after posting a pair of 76's (+4).  Nicholson impressed with an even back nine and was +1 through seven holes.

Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) was two shots away in a tie for 18th.  She finished with a 78 (+6), which included taking a triple on her first hole.  After that she rebounded nicely going +3 the rest of the way.  Her sister Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) followed in a tie for 21st after she totaled an 80 (+8).  She had three doubles and three birdies and was +2 through nine holes. 

Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) had an off day with an 81 (+9) as she sits in a tie for 26th.  She played as an individual joining Gabrielle Sanchez who was forced to retire.                    

Redlands has some ground to make up but are in striking distance when they return to the course for Day 2 tomorrow, Sunday, March 27 beginning at 12:00pm.
