VENTURA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team opened up the first conference tournament of 2022 over the weekend during SCIAC No. 1 at Olivas Links Golf Club where they finished 3rd overall with a 311-307 (618).
They remained in 3rd after both rounds of competition and were able to pull away from the pack thanks to a 307 on Day 2 allowing them to beat Chapman University (4th – 628), Cal Lutheran (5th – 633), Occidental College (6th – 325), Whittier College (7th – 329), and the University of La Verne (755).
Pomona-Pitzer won the team event with a 590 (295-295) and Claremont-M-S followed in 2nd with a 596 (301-295).
Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) led the Maroon and Grey on the weekend finishing 6th overall with a 74-75 (+5). Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) was not far behind in a tie for 10th. After an opening 79 was able to drop six strokes to a 73 going +8 over the two days.
Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) was consistent over the two days posting a 78-77 (+15), while Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) (80-82), Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) (81-82), and Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) (84-79) went 25th and a tie for 26th, respectively.
Redlands returns to the links with a busy March schedule. They travel next weekend, March 12-13 to the George Fox Westbrook Invitational in Phoenix, AZ, taking place at Westbrook Village Golf Club. They will then join the men's team in Jekyll Island, GA on March 18-20 for the Jekyll Island Invitational taking place at Jekyll Island Golf Club on the Pine Lakes Course. The final event of the month will take place at the S Club where Redlands will host their annual Bulldog Spring Classic. This two-day event will take place March 26-27.
