Bulldog Men's Track & Field posts 13 Top-8 finishes at Redlands Invitational

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Track and Field team posted 13 Top-8 finishes at the Redlands Invitational inside Ted Runner Stadium Friday.

Leading off the finishes was Markelle Raymond (Bakersfield, CA) who ran the sixth fastest time (10.88) in the 100m where there were 12 sections of athletes. Raymond was also on the Bulldogs' 4x100 relay team that included Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA), Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA), and Cristian Megas (Palmdale, CA), that took third with a time of 41.19, 0.27 seconds off their fifth fastest time in program history of 40.97 at the Redlands Final Qualifier last season.  

After not quite making the top-eight in fastest section of the 100m, Megas came back strong in the 200m finishing sixth with a time of 22.05.

In the middle-distance Ronan Byrne (Portola Valley, CA) ran a 1:56.00 in the 800m after running a personal best time of 1:55.21 at the Occidental Distance Carnival six days prior.

The Bulldogs had all six competitors in the 3000m with Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI), Enrique Verschoor (Mar del Plata, Argentina), Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA), Rogelio Salcido (Beaumont, CA), and David Huggins (Salem, OR) running. Lathrop won the event with a new program record time of 8:43.08 while Verschoor came in right behind him with the new second fastest time at 8:43.48.

In his first competition since the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA) took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m/6' 2.75".

Two spots behind him was Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA) who was seventh with a height of 1.80m/5' 10.75". Schmitz also was fourth in the triple jump where he took advantage of his final jump of 13.45m/44' 1.5".

Jack Gordon (Las Vegas, NV) was seventh in the pole vault with a successful first height of 4.30m/14' 1.25".

In the throws Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) took 13th in the hammer, but he recorded a new personal best with a 40.59m/133' 2" as the Bulldogs' highest finisher.

The Bulldogs will have next week off as they will stay inside Ted Runner Stadium for Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 on Saturday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m.
