Tom Jansen named 2nd Team All-American in record-breaking 1650 Free

RICHMOND, VA – The NCAA Division III National Championships for Swimming & Diving have completed and University of Redlands graduate student Tom Jansen (Pleasant Hill. CA) put together a historic finish on the final day in the 1650 Free.

Jansen becomes the first All-American for Bulldog Swim & Dive since Sami Scarano (Diving) and Julia Hagenbaumer (100 Breast) in 2020 (They both were selected All-Americans due to the NCAA Division III National Championships being cancelled due to the pandemic) and before that Ellie Jaques in 2017 who competed in the 200 IM and 200 Breast.  Jansen joins a long list of All-Americans within the program record books and currently sits atop the 500 Free and 1650 Free records.      

Jansen competed in the 500 Free and then the 1650 Free to wrap-up his first NCAA Division III National Championship appearance.  He put together a record-breaking performance posting a 15:35.59, which placed him 9th overall in the field landing him 2nd Team All-American honors. 

This time was a 7.58 second drop from his personal best, while at the same time setting new school records in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:24.19 and the 1650 Free with a time of 15:35.59. 

Earlier during the Championships he also competed in the 500 Free coming in at 36th out of 39 competitors.  He finished in 21st with a time of 4:31.97, dropping 1.6 seconds off his personal best.  He also moved up 15 spots from his original seeding.
