LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands Women's Swimming and Diving team finished seventh at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) as they scored 227 points, only 27 away from sixth place Caltech.

The Bulldog women came away from the championships with five new Top-10 program times thanks to Gabrielle Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) and Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA).

Hayon posted new Top-10 marks in the 500 Free, 1000 Free, and 1650 Free. In the 500 Free she swam a 5:11.86, the new eighth-fastest time in program history as she brought back nine points and a ninth place finish for the Bulldogs.

In the 1000 Free she now ranks sixth in program history with an 11:00.69 and then in the 1650 Free she swam an 18:22.72, the ninth-fastest in program history and in the finals as she added nine additional points to her team's total.

Other scoring events for her included the 800 Free Relay where she teamed up with Brenstrom, Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA), and Ella Suazo (Littleton, CO) for a fourth-place finish and 30 critical points.

The 400 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay each added another 24 points to the Bulldogs' total as Hayon, Lauren Kline (Lone Tree, CO), Morgan Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), and Springer swam a 4:08.55 in the Medley and then Suazo, Ashleigh Merrill (Anacortes, WA), Leila Alejos (Portland, OR), and Hayon posted a 3:46.01 in the Free.

Along with the three Top-10 program times from Hayon came two from Brenstrom. She posted the second fastest time in the 1000 Free at 10:48.42. She then matched that finish with a 18:05.50 1650 Free time.

Her 1650 Free time placed her seventh at the championships and scored the Bulldogs 12 points.

In diving Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) came in fourth as the highest non-CMS diver with a final score of 430.55 in the 1-meter dive. Despite a lower finish than her runner-up finish in 2022, she posted a score improvement of 6.55 points. Her finish netted Redlands 15 team points.

In the 3-meter dive, Patterson finished sixth with a final score of 369.15 after a prelim score of 408.25, but she still managed 13 points for the team total.

With her 1-meter diving score, Patterson qualifies for the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals next weekend at Emory in Atlanta, GA.  Since she qualified in the 1-meter, she will get to dive in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

For the Bulldog women they leave the championships with 15 new personal best times and 21 season bests along with those five new Top-10 program marks.

The next events for Redlands Swim and Dive would be the aforementioned NCAA Diving Regionals in Atlanta next weekend, February 24-25, and then a potential trip to Greensboro, North Carolina for the NCAA Division III Swim and Dive National Championships on March 15-18 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
