Redlands Women's Swimming and Diving looks to make statement at SCIAC Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Swimming and Diving team will compete at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) over the next four days, Wednesday-Saturday, February 15-18. The championships will be the final opportunity for the Bulldogs to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Tickets are no longer being sold online, only on-site.

Redlands finished fifth at the championships last season and interim head coach Jonathan Champagne will have the opportunity to lead the Bulldogs at the championships for the first time. In 2022 they were just 4.5 points behind Occidental College for fourth place and 50.5 points away from a top-three finish.

The Bulldogs' lone top-eight qualifier is Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) who is the seventh seed in the 3-Meter dive with 262.95 points, a mere 2.05 points away from qualifying for the NCAA Division III Regional Diving Championships, which she was a part of last season when she took 17th in the 3-meter and 15th in the 1-meter.

Despite being seeded lower in 1-meter diving, she is only 0.1 points away from qualifying. During the SCIAC Championships last season, Patterson was fourth in the 1-meter and runner-up in the 3-meter.

The highest individual swimming seeds are Gabrielle Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) and Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA) who sit 13th and 14th in the 1650 Free with times of 18:27.55 and 18:35.16.

The Bulldogs will look to qualify their first female athlete at the NCAA Division III National Championships since 2019 when Wendy McAleer qualified in the 200 IM, 100 Fly, and 200 Fly.

Below is a table of all the qualifying times for each event. The athlete must meet the "A" Standard to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, and if they only meet the "B" Standard, they will have wait and see if they get an at-large invite in their respective event. Not meeting either standard will eliminate them from contention.
