U of R Swim & Dive Opens 2022-23 with Bulldog Pentathlon

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving teams opened up 2022-23 Saturday with the Bulldog Pentathlon. 

The Bulldogs hosted Chapman University, Westcliff University, Occidental College, Whittier College, and the University of La Verne.  The men won the team event with 3325.5 points beating out Chapman (3187.5).  The women took third in the team event totaling 2349 points falling behind Chapman (1st – 4702) and Occidental (2nd – 4167.5).      

Men

In the 100 Fly, the Bulldogs' top finisher was Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) who came in sixth with a 53.57. Heaston also came in 10th in the 100-yard free with a 49.35 mark. 

Also in the 100 Fly was Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) who posted a Top-10 finish with a 54.70. Eddow also had Top-10 times in the 100 Back (57.33), 100 Free (48.90), and the 100 IM (56.14). 

Memphis Gile (Highland, CA) came in the Top 10 in three events: ninth in the 100 Back (57.96), ninth in the 100 Free (49.32), and tenth in the 100 IM (56.96).  First-Year Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV) won the 100 Breast at a 1:01.55 and the 100 Back (56.17), while earning a Top-10 finish in the 100 IM (56.34), coming in seventh. 

Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR) was the second-highest finisher in the 100-yard breast, coming in fifth with a 1:02.66. Cole Goyette (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) joined Chir and Wingard in the Top-10 of the 100 Breast with a seventh-place finish and a time of 1:02.92.

Thomas Long (Brea, CA) was the fifth Bulldog to post multiple Top-10 finishes, with two. Coming in as the runner-up in the 100 Free (48.41) and eighth in the 100 IM (56.35).

Women

Gabrielle Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) gave the Bulldogs important points with Top-10 finishes in three events: seventh in the 100 Back (1:04.60), sixth in the 100 Free (57.07), and ninth in the 100 IM (1:04.48).

Morgan Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was the second-place finisher in the 100 Breast with a 1:09.98.

Hayon's and Felix's four Top-10 finishes were the only ones of the meet on the women's side. 

The Bulldogs host their annual alumni meet at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. Their next competitive meet is on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to take on the University of La Verne beginning at 10:30am.
