200 Medley Relay Record Broken as Bulldogs compete in Tri-Meet with La Verne & Biola

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands Swimming and Diving teams competed in a tri-meet against the University of La Verne and Biola University at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) Saturday morning. 

There were 32 total events on the day, with the Bulldogs winning 15 of them, which included the M/W 1-Meter Dives, Women's 200 Medley Relay (TAC record), Women's 1000 Free, Men's 200 Free, M/W 100 Breast, Women's 50 Free, Women's 3-Meter Dive, Men's 100 Free, Men's 200 Breast, Men's 500 Free, Men's 100 Fly, and the M/W 200 IM.

Both teams finished 1-1 on the day beating the University of La Verne (W: 241-36 | M: 206-32), but falling in a tight head-to-head match-up with Biola University (W: 163-130 | M: 157-117).

Diving

The morning got off to a strong start for the Maroon and Grey when sophomore Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) won the Women's 1-Meter dive with a score of 256.15 points, beating the second place finisher (Eliana Cote – Biola) by 52.15 points.  With this score Patterson has now posted one of two regional qualifying marks she needs to get on the season.  She then returned midway through the meet to win the 3-Meter board as well putting up a mark of 235.30 giving the Bulldogs big points.     

On the men's side for the 1-Meter dive, first-year Caleb Crane (Redmond, WA) impressed in his first appearance winning the event with a score of 173.7 points.

Swimming

Women

In the swimming events a number of Bulldogs put together strong performances led by the 200 Medley Relay team of Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), Hanna Parker (Seattle, WA), Madison Petschauer (Cary, NC), and Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) who won the event with a time of 1:49.07, which was is new TAC record.  After that Redlands continued with the momentum as Petschauer came back with winning times in the 100 Breast (106.69) and 200 IM (2:13.62).  She also posted a 2nd place finish in the 200 Breast (2:30.13). 

Other notable performances on the day for the women included first-year Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA), who won the 1000 Free with a time of 11:14.03, Sarah Szafranski (Houston, TX) who took 2nd in the 100 Fly (1:01.88), Gaby Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) who finished 2nd in the 500 Free (5:26.83), and Nakagawa in the 50 Free who won with a time of 25.31, right in front of teammate Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) who took 2nd (25.46).  Nakagawa also had a strong finish in the 100 Back taking 2nd with a mark of 1:01.21      

Men

On the men's side Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) continues with his dominating junior season proving to be one of the top freestylers in the conference taking home three wins on the day, which included the 200 Free (1:43.88), 100 Free (47.49), and the 500 Free (4:49.83).  His teammate, junior Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA) followed suit with a trio of 1st place finishes as well, but they came in the 100 Breast (58.09), 200 Breast (2:06.57), and the 200 IM (1:58.38).

Other notable performances on the day came from Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) who won the 100 Fly (53.52), Tom Jansen (Pleasant Hill, CA) who took 2nd in the 1000 Free (10:11.52), and Jack Forsythe (Ladera Ranch, CA) who took 2nd in the 50 Free (22.18).  The relays did well for the Bulldogs too with the team of Eddow, Walker, Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA), and Forsythe taking 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:37.24.  Then to end the day the grouping of Forsythe, Thomas Long (Brea, CA), Chris Loudon (Anchorage, AL), and Gile would take 2nd in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:16.01.     

The Bulldogs return to the pool next Saturday, November 13 on the road with a huge Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown with Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 10:30am.
