REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands saw their 2022 season come to a close Sunday as they were eliminated from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament following a 5-2 loss to Chapman University.

The Bulldogs who had to fight their way back to earn a spot in Championship Sunday by sweeping La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, was unable to keep the momentum going as they would see their offense stall in a tight loss to the Panthers who clinched the AQ into the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Redlands has an outside shot to gain an At-Large bid into Nationals, but right now hold a 24-14, 15-6 SCIAC record.  They also finished atop the SCIAC Standings in the final poll for 2022.

It was a slow start for the Maroon and Grey who did not record a hit until the 5th Inning.  By that time they were behind 5-0 and despite a late charge could not complete the comeback.  Chapman got after Bulldog starter Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) with two runs in the first and a run in the second and third innings, which made the score 4-0.

Redlands had a couple opportunities early despite not having a hit.  They loaded the bases in their opening at-bats following three players getting hit-by-a-pitch, but all were left on following a flyout.  This same situation occurred in the 3rd Inning with UR getting the bases loaded with two outs, this time drawing a walk and having another two players get hit-by-a-pitch.  But again all were left stranded, as the score remained a four-run deficit.

The Maroon and Grey finally broke through in the bottom half of the 5th Inning and ended the no-hitter.  Alexis Campos (Lake Forest, CA) started the inning off with a double to center.  Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) followed with a single up the middle that plated her and Tyesen Gordon (Lathrop, CA) would double to right center that brought in the second run.  The inning continued as Sierra Daley (Torrance, CA) drew a walk putting two runners on, but after Ur went pop-up, flyout, flyout that ended the threat.

This would be the best chance the Bulldogs had to get back into the game because they went down 1-2-3 in the 6th and 7th Innings that allowed Chapman to escape with the victory.

Stallings picked up the loss after going 4.1 Innings giving up five runs on 11 hits.  She finishes the year 14-6.  Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) went the final 2.2 Innings and was perfect only giving up two hits as she kept the Bulldogs in the game.

Redlands registered only three hits for the game, their lowest offensive output on the weekend.  Campos was 1-for-4 (Run), Allen was 1-for-3 (Run & RBI), and Gordon was 1-for-3 (RBI).  Daley also drew a pair of walks.
