University of Redlands Men's Tennis Releases 2022 Schedule

2022 University of Redlands Men's Tennis Schedule

REDLANDS, Calif.- The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team officially unveiled their 2022 schedule Wednesday with the season getting underway with a matchup against Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday, February 19 at 1:00pm.

In 2022 the Bulldogs will be seeking their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title since 2005 as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) has won the previous 14 championships. Leading the charge for the Maroon and Grey this season will be recently hired Head Coach Peter Yellico who comes from Pacific University (OR) where he was the Head Men's Tennis coach.  Yellico replaces long time UR Alum and Head Coach Geoff Roche who resigned in October.  He led the Bulldogs since 2000 and was 336-174 with five SCIAC regular season championships and a third place NCAA team finish in 2001.

During the season the Bulldogs will play 18 dual matches with 14 of those happening on the Verdieck Courts. There were no official contests in 2021 due to COVID-19, but in 2020 before matches got cancelled, Redlands was 3-2, finishing the season with three straight wins against No. 36 Washington & Lee (6-3), Christopher Newport (7-2), and Hardin-Simmons (9-0).  That same season Brad Cummins and Brysl Libao finished as runner-ups at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup in October of 2019.

The last time the Bulldogs were nationally ranked in the Division III polls was back in 2019 where they finished No. 18 in the country. The University of Redlands has finished ranked inside the Top-10 every season since 1992 except for 2018 when they did not finish in the rankings and 2014 when they were ranked No. 21.

Coming into the season the Bulldogs have the eighth ranked doubles team from the Division III West Region with the combo of senior Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) and sophomore Stefan Hester (Rancho Pales Verdes, CA).  They were also main draw doubles semi-finalists at the Fall ITA West Regional, joining Nathan Bernardo (Santa Ana, CA) who was the Flight C Singles champion.
