Ralph Perez and Staff named Div. III West Region Coaching Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches

United Soccer Coaches Coaching Staffs of the Year

REDLANDS, Calif. – It was announced Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches the 2021 Regional Staff of the Year recipients for NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA men's and women's soccer.

The University of Redlands Men's Soccer Coaching Staff consisting of Head Coach Ralph Perez and assistants Cody Carlson, Claudio Rivas, and Gio Napoletano were selected as the Region X Division III Coaching Staff of the Year.

In 2015 and 2016 Ralph Perez and his staff were selected as the Division III West Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).   

This year the Bulldogs posted a 17-3-1, 9-2-1 SCIAC record, earned Division III National Rankings by the United Soccer Coaches (No. 5, No. 19, No. 23) and d3soccer.com (RV), won the SCIAC Post Season Tournament by upsetting the top-seeded Stags of Claremont-M-S (2-1), and earned a berth into the NCAA Division III National Championships where they went on to fall in the Sweet 16 to Connecticut College (1-0) after beating Concordia (TX) (2-0) and Pacific Lutheran (4-1). 

Other notable accolades from this season included Coach Perez earning his 400th Career Victory, five players being selected CoSIDA Academic All-District (Mikey Flota, Collin ChubbFertal, Arian Mogharei, Steve Acuna, Aidan McSweeny), three players being named All-West Region (Collin ChubbFertal, Arian Mogharei, Ethan Kovach), six players being selected as All-SCIAC performers (Arian Mogharei, Mikey Flota, Steve Acuna, Collin ChubbFertal, Ethan Kovach, Peyton Menti), Arian Mogharei being voted as the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Year, and four players being recognized as SCIAC Athletes of the Week (Seth Lawrence, Matt Beasley, Arian Mogharei, Collin ChubbFertal).    

Each of the 60 (30 men's and 30 women's) staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Ceremony at the United Soccer Coaches Convention on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. In addition, the Regional Staff of the Year recipients have been placed on the ballot for United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division.
