Redlands Men’s Golf Remains in Contention after Day Two of 2014 NCAA Championships

The top-ranked University of Redlands men's golf team took on the toughest competition in the country over the past two days, and with impressive results, the Bulldogs made the cut and remain in contention at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships.  With rounds of 298 on Day One and 297 on Day Two, the U of R is currently tied for 11th place overall in the field with a two-round mark of 595.  This score advances Redlands to rounds three and four as one of the top-15 teams at the NCAA Championships.

With all teams competing at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC, Schreiner University currently sits atop the leaderboard with a two-over par two-round team total of 578 (285, 293).

Junior Bobby Holden (Simi Valley, CA) leads the way for the Bulldogs with a four-under par two-round total of 140 (71, 69).  With both rounds coming in under par for Holden, he now sits tied for second place overall, trailing the leader by four strokes.  Over the course of the two rounds, Holden has registered the second-best par-five scoring average at 4.50, while he also owns the second-best par-four scoring average at 3.95.  In addition, Holden has racked up nine birdies, the fourth-highest total of all golfers in the competitive field.

Senior Jeremy Gomberg (Mountain View, CA) comes into the clubhouse after two days as the U of R's second-best golfer and is tied for 29th overall.  His two-round total of 147 came from a round of 76 on Day One and an impressive score of 71 on Day Two.  He is currently three-over par for the tournament.

Sophomore John McCord (Oakland, CA) and senior Mike Caston Jr. (Escondido, CA) are both tied at 10-over par for the Maroon and Gray, with McCord notching scores of 76 and 78, while Caston finished the days with marks of 75 and 79.  McCord currently owns a par-three scoring average of 3.00 in addition to tallying 25 total pars at the NCAA Championships.

Senior Nick Johnson (La Jolla, CA) rounds out Redlands' golfers with a two round mark of 161 (79, 82).
