Football Preview: University of Redlands at Chapman University

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team, fresh off their 35-14 win over Cal Lutheran in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener look to make it two in a row this weekend when they travel to Orange County on Saturday, October 15 to take on Chapman University beginning at 7:05pm.    

The Bulldogs currently sit at 1-4, 1-0 SCIAC with five more games, all within conference, remaining on the schedule.

Week 6 Results

Redlands (Box Score | Recap)

The Bulldogs were led by a career-high 143 rushing yards and four touchdowns from Andrew Kellstrom (San Bernardino, CA). His four touchdowns placed him in a tie for second most in a single game in program history and earned him SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week recognition. 

Myles Herrera (Yucaipa, CA) had one of his most efficient games, completing 16-of-21 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown. He also averaged a career-high 11.2 yards per attempt.

Calel Olicia-Aramboles (Westfield, IN) ran the ball 14 times for a career-high 71 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per rush.

Redlands posted 441 yards of total offense, a new season-high. They also had season-highs of 199 rushing yards, a 76% completion percentage, zero turnovers committed for the first time, and scored 35 points. 

Defensively the Bulldogs held the Kingsmen to 274 total yards, 2.6 yards per rush, posted five tackles for a loss (TFLs) and added three sacks.

Jadin Michaels (Palm Springs, CA) and Scott Tinsley (Capitola, CA) each had eight total tackles. Tinsley had a .5 TFL, Craig Hunter (Murrieta, CA)Mikey Duran IV (Ceres, CA)Dawson Brokman (Martinez, CA), and Jax Lee (Richland, WA) all had TFLs with Lee leading the way with 1.5 TFLs and one sack. 

Chapman 

The Panthers lost their second-straight conference game this past week and currently sit at 3-3, 0-2 SCIAC.  They lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 28-6 during week six competition. Despite the loss, they out gained the Stags 325-287, were more successful on third down conversions (8 – 50% Conversion Rate), and ran 22 more offensive plays.  The difference came with turnovers where the Panthers coughed the ball up four times.  They also allowed 5.9 yards per rush and 199 total rushing yards.   

Quarterback Jack Alexander went 15-of-29 for 174 yards with two interceptions. Marcos Reyes ran the ball 15 times for 98 yards, at a 6.5 yards per rush average. Spencer Corona caught seven balls for 72 yards and kicker Ken Baierl went 2-for-2 on field goals with a long of 43 yards. 

Series History

The Bulldogs beat Chapman 28-24 at Ted Runner Stadium last season, which secured the 2021 SCIAC Championship Title. Dating back to 2015, each team has won their respective home game.  The last road win occurred in 2014 when the Panthers came to Ted Runner and earned a 31-27 victory. The last road win for Redlands came in 2013 when they used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Panthers 21-17.
