REDLANDS, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Baseball Athletes of the Week in the fourth week of voting and University of Redlands first-year catcher Ian Umscheid (Beaumont, CA) was selected as the SCIAC Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career.
Umscheid was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk in his first collegiate start as the University of Redlands split a pair of games against Pomona-Pitzer. He scored a run in the nightcap and drew a walk in the 4-3 loss.
He made his third plate appearance on the season in Game 1 coming off the bench as a pinch hitter and in that at-bat he drew a walk, which extended the inning allowing an insurance run to come in.
Redlands begins a three-game series this weekend with the University of La Verne. Friday, March 3 they host the Leopards for a single game at 2:00pm and will then travel to the University of La Verne the next day, Saturday, March 4 for a doubleheader (11:00am & 2:00pm).
