Mark Kirkland named SCIAC Hitter of the Week

SCIAC Baseball Weekly Release No. 12

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Baseball Athletes of the Week in the twelfth week of voting and University of Redlands senior first baseman Mark Kirkland (Redlands, CA) was named the SCIAC Hitter of the Week for the second time this year.

This marks the second time this season he has been selected as the SCIAC Hitter of the Week.  The previous time came back in the ninth week of voting, the same week he was selected to the d3baseball.com Team of the Week.  He is now the fourth Bulldog this season to earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors joining Max Smyley, Cade McClelland, and Matthew Brumbaugh

Kirkland led the University of Redlands Baseball team to a series sweep of Caltech this past weekend, which included wins of 16-3, 11-1, and 13-3.  Kirkland hit .750 across the three games (6-for-8) with five runs scored, a double, a triple, and four RBI's. Three of his runs driven in came in the opener, along with adding an .818 on-base percentage, a 1.125 slugging percentage, three walks and three stole bases.

Redlands returns to the diamond this weekend, April 29-30 for a big SCIAC series with California Lutheran University.  The Bulldogs host the Kingsmen for a 3:00pm game at The Yard on Friday before traveling to Thousand Oaks for a doubleheader on Saturday.
