U of R Sweeps SCIAC Women's Water Polo Athlete of the Week Awards

The University of Redlands women's water polo team hauled in both Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) athletes of the week for March 21-28. Sophomore attacker Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) earned the Defensive Athlete of the Week award.

Through an extremely tight contest on Saturday morning, the University of Redlands women's water polo team defeated Chapman University in an exciting, 10-9 decision.

Nielsen accounted for two of the Bulldogs' 10 goals in the win, including the last-second, game-winner. With the score knotted at 9-9 with just 20 seconds to play, Nielsen swiped her third of three steals in the game and headed to the other end of the pool. She collected the ball and found the back of the net to give Redlands a thrilling, 10-9 win. She also added an assist in the game.

Zielinski made a pair of crucial stops in the final minutes of the second quarter to not allow Chapman any momentum heading into halftime with things tied up at 5-apiece. All-in-all she made 10 saves and registered a pair of steals to help secure the one-goal victory. She finished with a .526 save percentage.
