U of R Women's Water Polo Falls to CSUMB and No. 10 Davis to Close out Santa Clara Invite

The University of Redlands women's water polo team continued competing at the Santa Clara Invitational on Sunday but lost to a pair of high-caliber opponents.  The Bulldogs battled a tough Cal State Monterey Bay squad to a 2-8 decision in a defensive-heavy showdown before managing five goals against No. 10 UC Davis in the final game of the tournament.

Against CSUMB, the Maroon and Gray fought to a 1-1 tie early in the game, with junior attacker Sami Walker (Taylorsville, UT) firing one past the Otter goalkeeper.

However, the opponents ran away with this one with seven unanswered goals.  Junior defender Cameron Gardner (South San Francisco, CA) found the back of the net late in the contest to provide a positive finish for the Bulldogs.

Redlands jumped back in the pool for its final match of the tournament, which came against UC Davis.  Again, the Bulldogs successfully tied it up early at one apiece, as junior center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) scored her first of three goals in the game.

Nonetheless, Davis unleashed eight-straight goals to put this one out of reach for the Maroon and Gray.

In addition to Kahahawai's hat trick, senior attacker Michelle Na (Mercer Island, WA) and junior attacker Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) scored one apiece for Redlands.

The Bulldogs (1-6) head to the Gray Troyer Memorial Tournament in Claremont on Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, for four matches, beginning with an 11 a.m. showdown against St. Francis College (NY) on Friday.
