Bulldog Women's Water Polo Falters to La Verne

The University of Redlands women's water polo team traveled to the University of La Verne on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Leopards in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match. Although the Bulldogs kept the game close through two periods, their momentum faded, as the Leopards orchestrated a big second half to send Redlands home with a 3-9 loss.

After the Leopards quickly jumped on the board, sophomore attack player Breanna O'Dea (Rowland Heights, CA) provided the equalizer for Redlands less than two minutes later.

The home team put up two more goals, before sophomore attack player Sami Walker (Taylorsville, UT) blasted one through the posts to keep the score within one through the opening period of action.

The second quarter saw minimal scoring, with La Verne only registering one goal. Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) made some key saves between the pipes to keep the game close. She went on to finish the night with 11 saves.

However, the Leopards came right back in the third by scoring two quick goals. Freshman attack player Olivia Allen (Santa Monica, CA) tried to initiate the comeback when she fired off a netter with five minutes left to play in the third, but the Leopards closed out the game on a 3-0 run to keep Redlands at bay.

Redlands (8-20, 3-4 SCIAC) looks to return to the win column when it takes on the Cal Lutheran University Regals in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m.
