U of R Women's Water Polo Cruises to 13-2 Win over Grove City College

On Monday, the University of Redlands women's water polo team competed in its seventh contest in four days and capped off the busy slate with a solid 13-2 victory over the visiting Grove City College (PA) Wolverines.  After jumping out to an early 3-1 lead, the Bulldogs continued to cruise to their second victory in a row.

Sophomore attack player Sami Walker (Taylorsville, UT) initiated the scoring with a goal at the 3:42-mark of the first period.  Although Grove City answered on its next possession, Redlands responded with back-to-back goals off the hands of freshman attack player Olivia Allen (Santa Monica, CA) and sophomore center Carmen Gardner (South San Francisco, CA).

The momentum stayed with the Bulldogs, as they fired off five unanswered scores through the end of the third period to take an 8-1 lead.  Sophomore attack player Breanna O'Dea (Rowland Heights, CA) provided the only multi-goal performance during this stretch, while Gardner, Walker, and junior attack player Alea Weber (Haiku, HI) added to the offensive outburst.

During the fourth frame, the Maroon and Gray continued to roll by building a 13-1 advantage through the final minute of competition.  Gardner remained effective for the Bulldogs by scoring a hat trick in the final stanza alone to finish the night with five goals, while O'Dea tossed in another netter for her three-goal showing.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) patrolled the Bulldog cage by making nine stops in a solid effort.

Redlands (4-6) welcomes the Wildcats of Villanova University (PA) to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Wednesday, March 8, at 7 p.m.
