The University of Redlands women's water polo team traveled to Occidental College on Saturday to take on the Tigers in the final dual-match of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season.  The Bulldogs came out firing with a dominating 16-8 win that featured a five-goal outburst by senior utility player Taylor Christie (Anaheim, CA).

After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Bulldogs broke open a 4-all tie with consecutive scores early in the second stanza.  Senior attack player Annie Kinney (Newport Beach, CA) and sophomore attack player Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR) each fired off a goal for the Maroon and Gray.

Although Oxy pulled one back, freshman attack player Sami Walker (Taylorsville, UT) uncorked two quick netters to put Redlands ahead by a score of 8-5 at the end of two periods.

Following a scoreless three-minute span to start the third quarter, the Bulldogs stepped up their offense with a 5-1 run, which included two goals apiece from Kinney and freshman utility player Rachel Nelson (San Juan Capistrano, CA).

Redlands continued to cruise in the fourth frame, as freshman utility player Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) and Christie added to the team's offensive arsenal in the impressive win.

Christie finished the day with five goals, while Kinney provided four.

Freshman goalkeeper Carmen Gardner (San Jose, CA) patrolled the Redlands cage for three quarters and made eight stops.  Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) came up with four stops in her second-period appearance.

Redlands (7-22, 3-5 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting the 2016 SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships on Friday, April 22, through Sunday, April 24, at the beautiful Thompson Aquatic Center.  The Bulldogs await the rest of today's results to determine their seeding and game schedule for the opening day of the tournament.  For more information about the event, please visit the tournament home page.
