The University of Redlands women's water polo team faced off against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Saturday morning. The Bulldogs came up short against a potent Sagehen offense and suffered a 5-16 defeat.

After trailing by two, the Bulldogs looked to freshman attacker Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR) to fire home back-to-back netters to tie it up.

However, the Sagehens went on an 8-0 run to build a sizeable lead through the midway point of the third frame.

Redlands' senior utility player Deandra Van Houten (Huntington Beach, CA) broke the streak with a third-quarter netter but the momentum stayed with the home team, resulting in the lopsided defeat for the Maroon and Gray.

Van Houten and Haney notched two goals each, while junior defender Maurisa Major (Sacramento, CA) recorded the Bulldogs' only other score.

Junior goalkeeper AC Lopez (Northridge, CA) hauled in five saves as well.

Redlands (3-23, 1-4 SCIAC) faces off against the Cal Lutheran University Regals in a SCIAC showdown on Wednesday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
