Redlands Women's Water Polo Takes on George Washington University

The University of Redlands women's water polo team returned home to the Thompson Aquatic Center for a non-conference showdown against George Washington University (DC) on Monday evening.  An early deficit put the Bulldogs in too great of a hole to recover, leading to the 6-15 loss to the Colonials.

The visiting team broke an early 1-1 tie by firing off five unanswered goals through the end of the first period.  Redlands battled in the second and third frames to keep the deficit at six goals or less.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, George Washington's offense erupted for a 4-1 run in the fourth stanza to secure the win.

Redlands gained two goals apiece from junior attack Annie Kinney (Newport Beach, CA) and junior utility player Taylor Christie (Anaheim, CA), while senior utility Deandra Van Houten (Huntington Beach, CA) and sophomore defender Rashel Alvarez-Zakson (Santa Monica, CA) each found the back of the net once.

Saves were not available but junior goalkeeper AC Lopez (Northridge, CA) patrolled the cage for the Bulldogs in a complete-game effort.

Redlands (0-13) heads to Riverside for the Cal Baptist University Lancer Invitational on Friday, March 13, with games against Iona College (NY) and St. Francis College (NY) at 11:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., respectively.  The Bulldogs return home on Saturday, March 14, for the second day of the event at the familiar surroundings of the Thompson Aquatic Center.
