The University of Redlands women's water polo team opened the 2014 campaign by splitting results in the Redlands Mini-Tournament on Sunday at the Thompson Aquatic Center.  After dropping a lopsided decision to Chapman University in non-conference action, the Bulldogs rallied to take a 13-10 victory over Cal State San Bernardino in their second contest of the day.

Redlands jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first period against the Coyotes during the afternoon game.  While utilizing a balanced attack, the Bulldogs gained goals from senior center Jaci Cochrane (San Bernardino, CA), sophomore center Caitlyn Freeman (Brentwood, CA), junior center-defender Deandra Van Houten (Huntington Beach, CA), and freshman center Madison Andres (Princeton, NJ) during this stretch.

Although CSUSB cut the deficit to one midway through the second stanza, the Maroon and Gray quickly responded with back-to-back goals, as Cochrane and freshman driver Grace Cochran (Danville, CA) each converted opportunities on the offensive end.

Redlands maintained its lead through the final whistle, with Cochran providing a team-high four goals in the win.  In addition, senior goalkeeper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) patrolled the Bulldog cage, recording seven saves.

Earlier in the day, Redlands struggled to find its offensive rhythm and converted only one goal against the Panthers.  Junior center-defender Tricia Bannister (Naperville, IL) found the back of the net early in the third period to put the Bulldogs on the board.

Redlands (1-1) heads to the Whittier College Mini-Tournament on Feb. 8.  Check back at ww.goredlands.com for game times and opponents.
